A New Direction

I recently decided to branch out from my usual fashion destinations of Target, Kohls, and Loft to try something new.  I was inspired to try this after I noticed that a few of my co-workers and I were unintentionally dressing like twins because we shopped at the same stores.  I had seen some posts about Stitch Fix on Facebook from a few of my friends, so I reached out to them to see what SF was all about.

Stitch Fix is a styling and clothing subscription service/company.  Here is the breakdown of how Stitch Fix works from the customer perspective. You sign up to create a personal profile on their website and take a very detailed survey about your personal style. You describe how you like things to fit, what colors you will or won't wear, your size, your spending preferences, and the kind of clothing you are looking for. It's extremely detailed! The results from your survey go into a fancy algorithm that helps a stylist choose clothing for you.

To schedule a "fix", you pay a $20 styling fee which you can apply to any items that you keep from your box. Stitch Fix employs stylists to choose five items for you for each fix. The five items could include shirts, dresses, skirts, pants, scarves, jewelry, or handbags. You get your fix in the mail on the day you scheduled it and open it up to find what your stylist picked for you.

You can try on each item in your own home and decide which to keep and which to return. You only pay for what you keep, but you do get a 20% discount on the whole purchase if you keep it all. With every box, you also get a personal note from your stylist and a styling card with ideas about how to style each item in the box. There is a prepaid return envelope in the box as well, so returning unwanted items is extremely easy. You can schedule a fix anytime you like, or you can sign up for a monthly or bi-weekly subscription. If your friends or family sign up with your referral link, you can also get $25 credit toward your next box.

So I thought, the most I have to lose is $20, and I've wasted way more than that on other things.

I signed up in December to receive my first "fix" around Christmas (Merry Christmas from me to me).

Christmas Eve my box arrived!

My favorite 2 items were the Octavia Chestnut Checkered Infinity Scarf $34 and the Market & Spruce Joolie Waffle Knit Cardigan $78

The cardigan and scarf were so cozy and such nice quality!  I'm also a little obsessed with cardigans and scarves. ;)

I really loved the Laila Jayde Cindy Slub Knit Raglan Top . . . but I couldn't bring myself to spend $64 on a "plain" top.  Reluctantly I sent it back.

The last 2 items were Skies are Blue Jonas Mixed Material Top and Level 99 Glenda Straight Leg Jeans.

Why no photos of these 2 items?  Well I couldn't button the top and the jeans wouldn't go up past my hips. :(  After I returned the items and left feedback, I immediately updated my profile to size up in blouses and pants.

All in all I was pretty please with my first fix.  In fact, I ordered one to come 3 weeks later.
